State and federal law enforcement agencies have begun to see mental health as an
important priority. Police officers may have anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress
disorder (PTSD) as a result of their high-pressure positions and exposure to tragic situations
(Newell et al., 2022). When it comes to determining the underlying reasons of these mental
health issues and suggesting practical remedies, forensic psychology consultants can be quite
helpful. The organizational issue surrounding law enforcement's mental health will be the main
topic, but will also examine consulting concepts, describe the method for determining causes,
and provide possible remedies (Burns & Buchanan, 2020).
Identify the Issue
According to the Needs Assessment, chronic occupational stress and Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD) brought on by repeated exposure to critical events are highly significant
organizational issues affecting law enforcement and government organizations (Burns &
Buchanan, 2020). Because untreated trauma and operational stress have serious repercussions,
such as high rates of burnout, absenteeism, low morale, physical health issues, and higher
chances of suicide, this topic is extremely significant (Burns & Buchanan, 2020). Officers’
decision-making skills, contacts with the community, and operational effectiveness are all
adversely impacted when their mental health is harmed. Resolving this problem enhances
overall public safety outcomes and promotes officer well-being (Burns & Buchanan, 2020).
