Check-in/Engine Start Standard
Ground operations will be accomplished using visual signals. Pilots will inform the crew
chief of their formation position and use them to relay visual signals if visibility between
cockpits is a factor. When No. 2 is ready for engine start, No. 2 will pass a "thumbs up"
to No. 1. If visual contact cannot be est between pilots or the crew chiefs, formations will
use Backup UHF Ch18 for check in prior to engine start or start engines separately.
When ready for check in, inform No. 1 on aux freq ("Wire 1, 2s ready")
ADS-B Standard
2 will input the lead callsign into their flight ID. During a flight split, 2 aircraft will change
their flight ID to their callsign in TIMS
Clearance/Taxi Procedures Standard
If an instrument trail departure is planned, No 1 will coordinate for a 1000' altitude block
with Clearance Delivery. During taxi at home station only, the flight lead will attempt to
stagger on the downwind side
EOR/Pre-Takeoff Procedures Standard
For local sorties, passing the last row of T38s or T6s, the formation will auto/switch to
CH4/5 as applicable. No 1 should check No 2 in prior to the Overspeed. After
overspeed and before T/O check, No 2 will pass a "thumbs up"
Interval T/O Standard
The standard spacing is 6 sec
Take off: Instrument Trail Standard
The standard t/o interval is 20 sec. No 2 will squawk 0100 and utilize TAS to aid in
acquiring No 1 visually
Instrument Trail Standard

, 1 will inform RAPCON that they are a non-std form, and request a 1,000' alt block. 1 will
ue the aux freq to direct 2 to the desired altitudes within the assigned block and to make
the timing calls. 2 will report visual with 1 and continue the ITD until told to rejoin. Once
rejoined, 2 will squawk STBY and set TAS to STBY. 1 will advise RAPCON once in a
std formation
Rejoins on Departure Standard
Rejoins enroute to the area will be flown at the published stereo route airspeeds unless
coordinate with RAPCON
FENCE-IN Standard
When directed to FENCE in, wingmen will acknowledge, change to area discrete, and
then accomplish the FENCE check
Joker Standard
Set a joker fuel or swap over time for changeover to equally split the gas/time each form
member receives on the wing
GX Standard
To initiate a GX, lead will direct it on the radio ("WIRE, standby GX"), followed by a "2"
acknowledgement from the wingman
Extended Trail Standard
Upon being told to standby for the ET ex, the 2 aircraft will acknowledge and move to
the route position. Both aircraft will perform a CLEF check. When complete, No 1 will
call "WIRE 1, ready" followed by 2 calling "WIRE 2, ready"
BD Check Standard
Attempt to conduct a BD check on all formation sorties. These should normally be
accomplished after the FENCE out. Accomplish during the recovery if cond permit
FENCE-OUT Standard
When directed to FENCE out, wingmen will acknowledge, sweep ATIS, and change to
recovery frequency before accomplishing the FENCE check
What speed will rejoins on recovery be performed?
230 KIAS
Patterns Standard
Attempt to have wingmen on the outside of turns in the pattern. If in route, wingmen will
maint 2 ship-widths to avoid infringing on the center rwy. Flights will stay together if
carrying through initial unless specifically briefed otherwise. If lead intends to split,
accomplish flight split on crosswind or downwind turn. If the formation must breakout,
No 2 will auto move to fighting wing while 1 initiates the climb to pattern breakout
altitude. 1 will then direct a reform prior to VFR entry or split the flight by directing
"WIRE 2, take spacing, cleared off" on the turn to parallel outside downwind
VMC Drag (ST IN) Standard
Upon initiating the descent to 1,800 MSL, 1 will direct 2 to "drag". 2 will acknowledge
and reduce power to achieve a min 1/2 mile spacing from 1, slowing no slower than final
approach speed. 2 will not utilize S turns to achieve spacing from the 1 aircraft
Buttonhook Standard
Drag procedures will not be used on BH statuses. Using a drag procedure will only be
accomplished while complying with "VMC Drag" cloud clearances (1500-3) and the
published restrictions in AFMAN 11-2T-6v3
