, Healthcare Condition Selected:
Hodgkin Lymphoma
Case Study:
• Client Name: James Carter
• Diagnosis: Diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkin lymphoma, nodular sclerosis subtype.
• Social Background: 28-year-old male who works as a teacher and lives with his partner. He denies
smoking or illicit drug use and reports occasional alcohol consumption. There is no known family history
of lymphoma or other malignancies.
• Assessment Findings: Physical examination findings include a firm, non-tender, enlarged lymph node in
the left cervical region without erythema or warmth. The patient also demonstrates mild splenomegaly
on abdominal examination, while cardiopulmonary findings remain unremarkable.
• Lab Results: Additional findings that support this diagnosis include laboratory studies revealing mild
normocytic anemia and an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), both of which are commonly
associated with Hodgkin lymphoma.
• Medical History: The patient has no significant past medical history; however, he reports a history of Client Picture
infectious mononucleosis during adolescence.
• Surgical History: The patient has no surgical history.
• Other/Imaging: Confirmation of this diagnosis was obtained through an excisional lymph node biopsy
that revealed the presence of Reed–Sternberg cells within an inflammatory background. A PET/CT scan
demonstrated hypermetabolic lymphadenopathy in the cervical and mediastinal regions, supporting
disease staging. A bone marrow biopsy was negative for involvement, consistent with Stage II disease.
