manual operation
-Professional: expensive, Swappable lenses, advanced settings, RAW images,
mostly manual operations
- Commercial: Really expensive, swappable lenses advanced settings Raw

Two main types of camera technology used for 1. Mirrorless
prosumer and up: 2. Digital singles lens Reflex

Scanners scanners are used for digitizing hard copy images into digital form

, What makes a good digital image? - Screen vs Print
- Large vs Small
- Close up vs far away
-Low quality vs high Quality
-colour vs grayscale

File Formate (images for use in print) - shoot images as camera RAW
-Save images as photoshop, TIFF, or EPS format
-Don't use GIF, PNG for print
- okay to use JPEG (if you know what you are doing)

Resolution (images for use in print) - 2 times rule
- different resolution for screen and print
- too high = dark areas will fill in, loss of detail
-too low = pixilation will occur

Colour space (images for use in print) RGB or CMYK

Size (Images for use in print) -image should be captured size as or larger
-Cannot properly increase resolution after the fact

Quality (images for use in print) Garbage in, Garbage out

Restrictions (images for print) - limited reproduction (digitizing) capabilities
- e.g. original artwork
- Limited usage
- e.g. image Banks, model photography
-Limited modification/ retouching
-always confirm usage
-rights

CMYK or not to CMYK (images for print) -images being used for full colour printing will be converted to CMYK at some
point, it is better to update the colour mode early on
- Successful conversion from RGB to CMYK is necessary for optimal quality on
press
- Confirm settings with printer
- Check photoshop settings under image -mode

Bitmap images have finite resolution -too much: Bark images, lost detail
- too little: pixilation

Size and resolution are dependent on each-other - when size increases, resolution decreases
-when size decreases, resolution increases
