A. Choose a company’s code of ethics from the Web Links section below and analyze
that company’s code of ethics by doing the following:
1. Analyze how well the chosen company’s code of ethics covers the topic of corporate
social responsibility (CSR).
Mayo Clinic is a nationally renowned medical center with multiple locations
across the country and headquartered in Rochester, Minnesota. Being a healthcare
provider, corporate social responsibility is integral to their operations as a credible source
of medical research and treatment. Each tenet is broken down by how it affects various
stakeholders, from patients to employees and vendors/ business partners. Section 3,
Workforce Support, directly covers how a sense of safety, health, and respect are fostered
in the context of dealing with various primary stakeholders. Section 4 is titled “Social
Responsibility” and directly addresses three ways in which Mayo Clinic addresses
corporate social responsibility – this section talks about the environment, giving back to
the community, and more.
2. Analyze how well the chosen company’s code of ethics covers the topic of
compliance with legal mandates.
As both a healthcare provider and a tax-exempt non-profit organization, there are
various legal mandates that Mayo Clinic must follow to maintain both titles. The Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) covers both Personally
Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI), found in Section 1
of Mayo Clinic’s code of ethics. Various topics on fraud, waste, and abuse are covered
under Section 2, Behaving Honestly. Section 3 covers occupational safety and health
from the context of providing patient care. The last subtopic under Section 4, titled
