Output device - ANS-any hardware peripheral that communicates the results of data
processing

Monitor - ANS-The TV-like peripheral device that displays the output from the computer.
Also called display or screen.

Flat panel monitor - ANS-A lightweight monitor that takes up very little room on the
desktop and uses LCD technology to create the image on the screen.

LCD (liquid crystal display) - ANS-A display technology that creates images by
manipulating light within a layer of liquid crystal.

LED (light emitting diode) - ANS-A flat-panel monitor that uses LEDs to provide
backlight.

Screen size - ANS-The diagonal measurement from one corner of the screen to the
other.

Pixels - ANS-One of the small dots in a matrix into which a graphics display is divided;
one pixel is the measurement of one picture element on the screen.

Display resolution - ANS-The number of pixels that a monitor displays. See pixels per
inch (PPI).

Graphics card - ANS-A card installed on the motherboard that controls the signals the
computer sends to the monitor. Also called video display adapter or video card.

Graphics processor - ANS-A processor that controls the signals the computer sends to
the monitor. Also called built-in graphics card.

Printer - ANS-The peripheral computer component that produces a hard copy of the text
or graphics processed by the computer.

Hard copy - ANS-A printed copy of computer output.

Dots per inch (dpi) - ANS-Determines quality of a printer's output. A higher number
generally indicates higher quality.
