Note: Full HelAirDet Certification is "level 1, Class 1 while full SWOAD certification is to
"Level 1, Class 2a, 4, 6 and 7".
Training Categories - ANS-1. Certification;
•The initial training to gain the certification. BASRT/IASRT.
2. Currency Training;
•Recurring training to maintain currency (easiest!).
3. Re-certification;
•Required when the certification is lost either through change in personnel or time
expired;
•Or with a OPDEF Rectification when material readiness fall below acceptable
standards.
Maneuvering Restrictions - ANS-•applying helm that will cause ship to heel suddenly;
•placing relative wind outside of operating envelope; and
•altering speed where such may increase pitch or roll.
Definition of Period of Danger - ANS-•Manoeuvres should be carried out for emergency
purposes only, with the realisation that a serious accident could easily occur:

Deck Limits - Halifax Class - ANS--Wheeled Helo: Day 2 pitch/4 roll, Night 1 pitch/3 roll;
-Skid Helo: Day 1 pitch/ 3 roll, Night 1 pitch/2 roll;
-Utility work 3 pitch/10 roll.
Wind Envelope - ANS-
Downwind Operations - ANS-•Are restricted to those cases where the True winds are 10
Kts or less and a minimum of 5 Kts relative is maintained within the wind envelope
-OOW shall not plan for downwind ops without the express approval of the CO;
-Minimum crew complement for downwind operations shall include an MHC;
-Final acceptance/rejection remains with MHC;
-Restricted to Day VMC only;
-Extended operations should be avoided; and
-Emergency operations shall not be conducted.
Control Zone - ANS-•Halifax class (Verify HOSTAC for other Navies)
-3,500 ft and 1/2 nm.

A.1. To minimize the risk of any EMI, HERO or HERP issues between the ship and the
helicopter;
2. The control & separation of air traffic within ship's control zone.
