PED3701 Assignment 3 2026 Video Script (approx. 5 minutes)
(0:00 – 0:15) Introduction
Hello, my name is Zinhle and I’m a student in the Psychology of Education
module, PED3701. In this video, I will analyse how I learn as an Open Distance
e‑Learning student, apply one cognitive theory from Learning Unit 3, and suggest
practical strategies to improve my learning.
, (0:15 – 1:45) Part 1 – Analysis of my learning and thinking (Bloom’s taxonomy)
When I study for this module, my first instinct is to highlight the study guide and try to
memorise the definitions – who Piaget was, what Vygotsky said, the three stages of
memory. Looking at Bloom’s taxonomy from Learning Unit 1, I realise I spend most of
my time on the lower levels: remembering and understanding.
For example, I can recall that the information‑processing theory compares the mind to a
computer. I can also explain it in my own words. But when the assignment asks me to
apply that theory to my own experience as an ODeL student, I get stuck. I struggle to
move from “knowing what the theory says” to “using it to understand my own
behaviour.”
The biggest cognitive challenge for me is analysis. I find it hard to break down complex
topics like the difference between Piaget’s formal operational stage and Vygotsky’s
zone of proximal development and see how they relate to each other. I also find it hard
to evaluate which strategy would work best for me.
So, I think my learning is mostly at the understanding level, but I rarely reach applying
or analysing unless an assignment forces me to. This shows that my learning is still
