C730 task 1
A:
Identifying students in need of reading intervention typically involves screening.
A universal screening application is a component of a comprehensive assessment.
An early discovery of a struggling student can help resolve academic issues more
quickly by providing support. Schools can also identify students who need reading
intervention by evaluating the students’ previous year's assessments. If this data
is unavailable, a school can also use general screenings, which are summative
assessments to establish present reading comprehension skills.
In establishing the RTI procedures, three tiers of execution are utilized to ensure
the proficient progress of students in reading comprehension, phonics, fluency, and
vocabulary. In the first tier, students receive high-quality instruction and content
in the general education class. Those who have been identified as being at risk,
overwhelmed, and/or underperforming due to reading difficulties are highlighted
for more targeted interventions to improve the four previous reading standards of
performance (comprehension, phonics, fluency, and vocabulary). This process
involves monitoring progress through assessments. If progress remains stunted or
non-responsive, the student may be transferred to the third tier of intervention,
which is typically one-on-one or small-group, and tailored more closely to their
individual needs.
Monitoring a student's progress and/or the continuing need for increased tier
support can be accomplished through periodic assessments. These assessments
can be in the form of regularly scheduled, periodic quizzes to gauge the student’s
progress. An additional improvement to this method would be to administer two
sets of quizzes, both before and after the lecture, to more accurately evaluate the
improvement.

Because my studied discipline is mathematics, it would be useful in instruction if
my students properly understood the “terms” associated with the mathematical
concepts that they need to master (example: radius vs diameter). A type of
vocabulary intervention that could be utilized for this was initiated by Dorothy
Frayer of the University of Wisconsin, who conceived the Frayer Model as a
method to help students understand concepts in any subject. In this technique, a
term or principle is written within the center oval of a printed template. The
student is then obligated to fill in the other four outer squares surrounding this
oval with information, definition, facts, and examples/non-examples of this term
