,Preface
Before picking this subject, we were brainstorming about what topics we would find interesting. Within
the group there were a lot of topics but China’s one-child policy immediately took our interest. Even after
mentioning the topic we had a lot of questions on how it would influence the view of the caretakers and
what influences it had on the children growing up with the policy.

Our first goal for this paper was, to inform not only ourselves, but others about the topic. We wanted it to
be clear what the one-child policy meant and what the influences were on the children. After we got to
know that the one-child policy is no longer in use, we decided that we also wanted to know how it
influences children today. Our main goal for the paper was to eventually make a summary on the
influences the one-child policy had and still has on the children. And then give recommendations on how
the living conditions of children in china could be improved.

During the making of this paper we also had some individual learning goals, which can be found in the
appendix. It was sometime quite difficult to find the information we needed for the paper, due to language
barriers and private documents. All in all, we are quite pleased with the end result and have learned a lot
during the making of this paper.

, Abstract
This study is to show the consequences and the influences that China’s one-child policy has had on the
Chinese society and also to discuss how it still affects the society today. Before we can discuss this, it has
to be clear what we mean with China’s one-child policy? Between 1979 and 2015 the Chinese
government introduced the one-child family policy to reduce the growth of the population, but since 2015
there is a two-child policy in China (Hesketh et al, 2005). Although the policy is no longer in use, it still
has influences today. With this research, we want find out what kind of influences the original one-child
policy has had in the life of children in China. The central question of our research is: What influences
did, and still do, the one-child policy have on child rearing in China? We chose this subject because we
were really interested in the facts that would and still does have an influence in children and child rearing
in China. To answer our research question, we will use various sources which includes books, articles and
documentaries on the subject. At the end, we will summarize and analyze the positive and negative
influences of the one-child policy in the conclusion.
