How do we respond to their fears - separation/ pain - ANSWER-1.) Separation anxiety starts
around 4 to 8 months and peaks in toddlers. Separation anxiety differs from normal clinginess.
Children with the disorder can't think about anything but the present fear of separation. They
may have nightmares or regular physical complaints. They may be reluctant to go to school or
other places.

Treatment includes talk therapy and possibly anti-anxiety medication.

ICP signs and some causes? - ANSWER--The intracranial pressure (ICP) is the pressure of the
CSF in the subarachnoid space between the skull and the brain.



-Causes: contusions (bruises), brain tumor, subdural or epidural hematoma, abscess, ischemic
anoxic-states, hypertensive encephalopathy, acute liver failure, hypercapnia, Reye's Syndrome,
venous sinus obstruction, CSF obstructed; hydrocephalus, meningeal disease choroid plexus
tumor, subarachnoid hemorrhage.



-Priority nursing interventions: keep head elevated! maintenance of a patent airway; inadequate
oxygenation or excess carbon dioxide causes cerebral blood vessels to dilate, resulting in an
increase in ICP. Monitor vitals closely (intracranial bleeding = increase in body temp.), loosen
clothing around neck, protect child from injury (seizures).
