Main Question: Which effects does an lockdown have on your body?

Sub question 1: What are the mental effects of an lockdown?

The corona pandemic is very confusing. Negative effects on the world economy, unemployment,
loneliness, illness, thousands of deaths: no one could have predicted that this would happen in the
first six months of 2020.

During the evolutionary process, our brains have adapted to the needs of human contact. When this
situation disappears, we are more likely to avoid other people because they may be infected, but this
makes us humans afraid of each other and that is unnatural. A study by the University of Oxford
shows that one in five children are now afraid to leave their homes. Especially people with a recent
history of mental health problems are vulnerable during this period, and older people are also more
prone to anxiety and stress because they are afraid of contracting the virus. Healthcare workers also
face a lot of stress and pressure.

No one knows when this pandemic will end. People are therefore very concerned that anyone
currently working in hospitals and other nursing homes will still feel the psychological effects of
working through this coronal leukaemia in the long term.

Our lives are now, almost one year after the outbreak of corona still not as they were and that will
maybe take a time before they will. This gives people stress and they also are more distrustful against
the government who are making these lockdown rules. This distrust can lead to an extreme political
point of view. Different YouTube channels are spreading fake news about the corona virus. But some
people do believe this and think it is the only truth and they distrust the government even more. This
can lead to extremism and even violence.

However, this period can also have a positive impact on us and our society. Think of unity and
solidarity. Many people feel comforted while others have gone through difficult times. By raising
more topics about the corona crisis, the stigma of mental health can also gradually disappear.
