FINAL PORTFOLIO: BACK AT THE CROSSROADS
Assessment 8 - 226905

, Introduction

The purpose behind this portfolio was to comment on the things that have impressed me during this
mad module.
I began by reconsidering my views to the multiple choices items in the Crossroads assignment. I give
my present opinions, along with my earlier opinions, and some few remarks in the next section. Then I
will summarize the whole learning process and make some conclusions about this module and the
things, which really impressed me.

1.(YOU MUST WRITE NOTES on this question)

In the next 100 years the average global temperature may increase by six degrees Celsius unless
radical measures are taken to reduce the use of fossil fuels.

In my own words

I do not think that we, individually, cannot and should make an effort to find a solution to this issue in
the greater good. The module broadened this perspective further by introducing me to the concept of
consequentialism: I now not only consider the issue of my personal responsibility but also the sum of
all the small actions that are going to be made. When everybody undertook greener actions, the
overall effect of emissions would be colossal this is a typical utilitarian argument. At the same time,
deontology tells me that I have a duty to protect the environment, irrespective of the immediate
outcome. The virtue ethics also appealed to me: an individual with a good character will not overlook a
crisis that endangers vulnerable persons and future generations. One discussion board exchange put
forward by a fellow student is that waiting on governments is a cop-out and that this is what challenged
me to think more about my own consumption. My decision has not been altered, but I now base my
decision on a more solid ethical basis.

I continue to believe that, as people, we can and must work to alleviate this issue to the greater good.
This perception was further enhanced in the module as I was introduced to.

consequentialism, which has made me consider not only my personal responsibility but also the
collective impact of the millions of little things. When all people choose more environmentally friendly
options, the total effect on emissions would be great- this is a typical utilitarian argument.
