Perfusion = blood flow = maintaining ECM within limits compatible with life
Life- Metabolism, growth, development, responsiveness, reproduction, etc…
Homeostasis- Maintaining a steady (within “normal” range) internal environment despite changes in the
external environment
Accomplished via feedback systems- receptors → control center → effector organs
Negative Feedback = homeostasis =
response of effector will counteract the
initial deviation
Ex. Temperature, hydration,
glucose levels, CO2, O2, etc…
Positive Feedback = rare since the
response of the effector will enhance the
initial deviation
Ex. Labor, hemorrhagic shock
