In the United States, domestic violence continues to be a significant social problem

affecting individuals and families across diverse communities. It encompasses multiple forms of

abuse, including physical, emotional, psychological, and sexual violence within intimate or

familial relationships. Even with increased awareness and policy efforts, domestic violence

continues to impact many individuals and causes long-lasting harm. The effects of domestic

violence often go beyond immediate physical injuries and can include emotional trauma, mental

health challenges, and disrupted family relationships.

Recent research shows that adults who experience domestic violence are at a much higher

risk for depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, and self-injurious behaviors (Das et al., 2025).

This highlights that domestic violence is not only a relationship issue, but also a major mental

health and public health concern. Survivors often face ongoing struggles related to safety,

emotional well-being, financial stability, and access to support services, which can make it

difficult to leave or recover from abusive situations.

From a Christian worldview, domestic violence goes against the belief that every person

has inherent worth and dignity. Christian values emphasize love, compassion, justice, and caring

for others, especially those who are vulnerable. Abuse within families directly conflicts with

these teachings and highlights the importance of protecting survivors and promoting
