Science is the body of knowledge and a process.
Science can involve STEM
STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics
● Science is the process of building knowledge of the natural world. This process consists of three
main domains of physical, life, and earth and space sciences.
● Technology is any modification of the world made to meet the needs and wants of humans.
This extends beyond computers and electronics to machines, instruments, and engines.
● Engineering involves the practice of designing to solve real-world problems and create
products to support the needs & wants of humans.
Engineering Design Process
- Define the problem
- Plan solutions
- Make a model
- Test the model
- Reflect & redesign

Process Skills
- Communication, measurement, observation, classification, inference, prediction
Observation- A description of what you see, hear, touch, etc.
- Qualitative observation: Does not include numbers
- Quantitative observation: Involves numbers
Inference- An explanation based on the observation.
Prediction- A guess or assumption
Theory- Explanation of an observed phenomenon.
Scientific Law- A description of an observed phenomenon that isn’t actually explained as to why it
happens.
