= beweging van voedsel/vloeistof door de mond – keelholte – slokdarm naar de maag

 Fasen:
- Orale fase
- Faryngeale fase
- Oesofageale fase
 Onwillekeurige bewegingen
 Stoornissen moeilijker te vinden en onder controle te krijgen
