drainage, dysuria

pustules; hair loss; primary ulcerative lesion might still be present; skin rash on
hands and feet

Tertiary syphilis: blindness, congenital damage, cardiovascular damage, syphilitic
psychoses; bacteria spreads further in body, goes undiagnosed; occurs within 12

Chlamydia - -most common STD

-"the silent disease" because most people have no symptoms

-transmitted by sex, or mom to baby through vaginal birth

-treated by antibiotics



Symptoms in women: Dysuria, urinary frequency, Purulent vaginal discharge

Symptoms in men: Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), Dysuria

Urethral discharge



Complications: Epididymitis, PID, Ectopic pregnancy, Infertility, Neonatal
complications



Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (genital herpes) - viral --> no cure

-HSV-2

-on genitals, upper thighs, buttocks

-symptoms: painful lesions lasting up to 2 weeks

Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) - -transmission: blood and body fluids

-highest prevalence: infection drug users, persons with STDs, multiple sex
partners, immigrants & refugees, health care workers, hemodialysis patients,
inmates

-virus can survive on a surface for at least a week at room temp.
