Political Organization
Political organizations act as a link between society and the political
process. They mainly include non-profit organizations like political
parties, NGOs, and advocacy groups. These organizations are important
agencies of civil society and their functioning, leadership, and objectives
continue to evolve with time. Due to globalization, a political gap has been
created which the nation-states alone cannot fill, giving rise to new social
movements that sometimes replace political parties, although they may
not be more accountable or representative.

Definition of Political Organization

Political organizations are structured groups that are
formed to influence or control political power, policy, and
governance within a specific area or across broader
regions. They include political parties, non-governmental
organizations, advocacy groups and special interest
groups.

Panchayati Raj
Panchayati Raj is a decentralized form of governance where Gram

, Panchayats act as basic administrative units.
It functions at three levels - village, block, and district.
The word "Panchayat" means an assembly of five respected elders (Panchs)
chosen by the village community to settle disputes and make decisions.
Traditionally, Panchayats resolved local issues efficiently, minimizing the
need for police or court involvement.
Modern government has adopted this system to empower local self-
government and has granted Gram Panchayats legal authority and funds for
village development.

73rd Constitution Amendment Act

This Act added Part IX to the Indian Constitution, titled "The Panchayats,"
containing Articles 243 to 243-0.
It also added the Eleventh Schedule, listing 29 subjects related to
Panchayat functions under Article 243-G.
The Act gives life to Article 40 of the Constitution, which directs the State
to establish village Panchayats as self-governing units.

Features of the 73rd Constitution
Amendment Act
Three-Tier System: Mandatory creation of Panchayats at the Village,
Intermediate (Block), and District levels.
Gram Sabha: The foundation of the system, consisting of all registered
voters in a village. It acts as a primary body of direct democracy.
Direct Elections: All members of Panchayats at every level are elected
directly by the people for a fixed tenure of 5 years.
Reservation of Seats:
Seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST)
in proportion to their population.
One-third (33%) of the total number of seats are reserved for women
