The Song Dynasty was the "richest and most skilled country on earth
according." Over time they used large amounts of industrial production which
was fueled by coal. Government required taxes to be paid in cash instead of
labor. They invented credit and promissory notes (checks).

Champa Rice - ANSWER Quick-maturing rice that can allow two harvests in one
growing season. Originally introduced into Champa from India, it was later sent
to China as a tribute gift by the Champa state (as part of the tributary system.)

Grand Canal - ANSWER The 1,100-mile (1,700-kilometer) waterway linking the

during the Sui Empire.
