A1. Demand for a New Service Line
Trinity Community Hospital (TCH) is seeking to establish a new service line, considering
three options: Orthopedic, Cardiovascular, or Oncology/Cancer. As the current CEO of TCH, I
recognize that TCH offers a wide range of services, but it is not widely recognized for excellence
in any specific area. When deciding which service line would be the best option for TCH to
develop, I considered the community's needs, services already offered nearby, and healthcare
data for the three options. Healthcare data indicate that all three areas for consideration are
expected to experience rapid increases in demand for each service, so any of the three options
would benefit the community and generate revenue for the hospital. Oncology is expected to
grow by 35%, orthopedics by 46%, and cardiology by 21.6%. When researching services already
available nearby, there are two other hospitals within a ten-mile radius of TCH. One of the
neighboring facilities is noted for its excellence in a comprehensive cardiac center, while the
other facility is known for strong orthopedic and cardiac services. Both neighboring facilities
offer cancer services; however, they are poorly organized and not accredited by ACOS. TCH's
designated service area encompasses a city of 400,000 and a surrounding county of 900,000,
with an annual population growth rate of 4%. Significantly, 13% of the population is over the
age of 65 years, which has a higher rate of cancer incidence, suggesting an increasing need for
convenient oncology services. (Trinity Community Hospital, 2026a). Using this research, I
concluded that opening a new oncology service line would be the best option for TCH. By
opening an oncology service line, TCH can become accredited by the ACOS and gain
widespread recognition for excellence in cancer treatment.
