SHORT DEFINITIONS
CSR – Managements obligation to protect and promote welfare of all stakeholders. It is
acting in an ethical manner
Stakeholders - Any individual or group of people that have an interest in or that will be
affected by the business
CSI – The actual resources that are invested in these stakeholders eg. Money, manpower,
products, machinery.
Sustainability – Projects where a process is set up to ensure that the project continues
Extreme poverty – Living on under R25 per person per day. These are people that
constantly struggle for survival. They have no access to education, medical facilities, basic
human rights.
Moderate poverty – Have some form of meagre income but lack many basic necessities of
healthy living like clean water, medical facilities & sanitation.
Triple bottom line reporting (integrated reporting) - This includes
reporting on: Economic prosperity (profit), Social responsibility (people),
Environmental sustainability (planet)
