• ACS (acute coronary syndrome) Answer: sudden symptoms of
insufficient blood supply to the heart indicating unstable angina or acute
myocardial infarction


• acute myocardial infarction . Answer: the condition in which a portion
of the myocardium dies as a result of oxygen starvation; often called a
heart attack by laypersons


• myocardial infarction . Answer: the occlusion of one or more coronary
arteries caused by plaque buildup (heart attack)


• hypertension (HTN) . Answer: blood pressure in the arteries are
persistently elevated


• Causes of heart failure . Answer: "MI, afib, infection, shock/trauma,
thyroid disease, PE, excess salt, medication noncompliance, beta
blockers, NSAIDs"


• Right side heart failure . Answer: right side of the heart is not pumping
blood to the lungs as well as normal. It is also called cor pulmonale or
pulmonary heart disease. ex of this are JVD and peripheral edema

heart's main pumping chamber. Fluid may back up in your lungs,
causing shortness of breath. Fluid may back up into your abdomen, legs
and feet, causing swelling.


• cardiogenic shock . Answer: A state in which not enough oxygen is

the heart. It can be a severe complication of a large acute myocardial
infarction, as well as other conditions.


• pulmonary edema . Answer: fluid in the air sacs and bronchioles


• CHF (congestive heart failure) . Answer: heart is unable to pump its
required amount of blood


• Bradycardia . Answer: slow heart rate


• Arterioles . Answer: smallest arteries


• Aortic dissection . Answer: inner layer of the aorta, the large blood
vessel branching off the heart, tears. Blood surges through the tear,
causing the inner and middle layers of the aorta to separate (dissect)


• PEA . Answer: pulseless electrical activity. Heart is doing something
but not pumping
