Origination
Though the official date of origin is unknown, it is estimated by the Torah to be
founded around 1800 BCE. Researchers believe that it was created from the polytheistic
religion Yahwinism. One sect located in the ancient region of Canaan, which is now Isreal
and Palestine, took the major god from this religion and created the monotheistic religion
of Judaism (Dhar, 2023).
According to the Torah, the first ancestor of the Jewish people and the founder of
this religion was a man named Abraham. That god had spoken to Abraham and revealed
that he and his lineage would go to create an incredible kingdom as the chosen ones. His
grandson would change his name to Isreal and his twelve descendants became known as
the Israelites and the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Throughout history these Jewish people
battled enslavement, violence, and persecution (Dhar, 2023). The Jewish people continued
to survive and thrive even to this day.
Practices and Beliefs
The basic principles of Judaism focus around their belief in God, and that he is the
only one true divine. They believe that the prophets speak the true word of God and in the
Torah which is the first five books in the Christian Bible. Also, they understand that God
will have the say in rewarding those who are good and punishing sinners. Lastly, they have
faith in the coming of the Messiah that will bring the resurrection of the dead.
