STAT 200 QUIZ 3 I have completed this assignment myself, working independently and not consulting anyone except the instructor. INSTRUCTIONS The quiz is worth 40 points total. The quiz covers Week 5 and 6 materials. Make sure your answers are as complete as possible and show your work/argument. When there are calculations involved, you should show how you come up with your answers with critical work and/or necessary tables. You must show why you choose certain answer for true-or-false and multiple choice questions. Answers that come straight from program software packages will not be accepted. The quiz is open book and open notes. This means that you may refer to your textbook, notes, and online course materials, but you must work independently and may not consult anyone. The brief honor statement is on top of the exam. If you fail to put your name under the statement, your quiz will not be accepted. You may take as much time as you wish, provided you turn in your quiz via LEO by 11:59 pm EDT on Sunday, October 9. (For Questions 1 & 2) UMUC Stats Club conducted an online poll of 300 adults in August 2016. One question was “Do you agree that US should have more gun control laws?”. 120 adults answered “Yes”. 1. (2 pts) Find a 95% confidence interval estimate of population proportion of adults who support more gun control laws. (Explain how you get the critical value, show work and round the answer to three decimal places) Confidence Interval: (0.345, 0.455) I used an online calculator to solve this: Sample Size = 300 Observed Proportion = 40% (120/300) or 0.4 Confidence Interval = + 5.54 or 0.055 (The online calculator required an extra step on my own, which was to divide by 100.) 0.4+0.055 = 0.345, 0.455) The critical value, which I didn’t need for this particular method, is 1.968, and that was found by inputting the following formula into Excel: = T.INV.2T(0.05,299) 2. (5 pts) In a similar online poll conducted in 2012, 35% of adults supported more gun control laws. In order to determine if the proportion of adults who support more gun control laws in 2016 is higher than 4 years ago, we would like to perform the following hypothesis test: H_0: p=0.35 H_a: p0.35 (a) (2 pts) Find the test statistic. (Show work and round the answer to two decimal places) 1.77 (b) (2 pts) Determine the P-value for this test. (Show work and round the answer to three decimal places. If you use technology to find the P-value, you have to describe the steps)
