Metaplasia Examples •Respiratory epithelium of habitual smokers. •Epithelial metaplasia: columnar to squamous type •Normal columnar epithelium cells of trachea and bronchi are often replaced by stratified squamous epithelium cells. •Squamous cells are more rugged, can handle the stress of noxious chemicals.
