Bulimia Nervosa- Binge eating is one of the main signs of bulimia nervosa, according to the

DSM 5. Recurrent binge eating, accompanied by compensatory behavior; such as laxative

abuse or self-induced vomiting to avoid weight gain.


Binge eating Disorder- People with binge eating disorders undergo episodes of binge eating

where they eat a lot of food quickly, feel out of control when it comes to their eating, and are

distressed by the activity. They do not regularly use compensatory behaviors to get rid of the

food by inducing vomiting, fasting, exercising or laxative misuse.


Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder - involves eating disturbances that lead to

excessive picky eating and ongoing failure to achieve nutritional demands.


Pica- is an eating disorder where a person consumes foods that have little nutritional value on

a regular basis.

, Rumination Disorder- After eating, people with rumination problem frequently bring their

food back up into their mouths, re-chew it, and then either swallow it whole again, spit it out,

or both.


Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder - The classification was created to include

people who had serious eating disorders but did not strictly fit the diagnostic criteria for

anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.


Anorexia Nervosa- is characterized by weight loss and self-starvation, leaving the person

underweight for their height and age. It has two sub-types (1. binge-eating/purging type in

which persons also engage in intermittent binge eating and/or purging behaviors 2. restricting

type, in which individuals lose weight primarily by dieting, fasting or excessively exercising)


Unspecified Feeding or Eating Disorder- This diagnosis is used when a person experiences

extreme distress or a crisis as a result of an eating disorder but does not fully meet the

Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) criteria for an eating

disorder such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa or binge eating disorder.
