ASSIGNMENT 3
DUE DATE: AUGUST 2026
, Exploring Teachers' Preparedness to Support Learners with Learning Disabilities
in Inclusive Classrooms
1. Introduction
Inclusive education is a key part of South Africa's education policy. The government's
Education White Paper 6 (2001) says that all children, no matter their abilities, should
learn together in mainstream schools. This policy is based on the idea that every child
has the right to a good education. However, putting this policy into practice has been
very hard. Many teachers are not ready to support learners with learning disabilities in
their classrooms.
Research problem
Teachers in South African schools are expected to include learners with learning
disabilities, but they often lack the training, knowledge, and support they need. Many
teachers feel unprepared and unsure of how to help these learners. This creates a gap
between what the policy says and what happens in real classrooms. Learners with
learning disabilities may not get the help they need to succeed.
