 QUESTION 1

1. A purple flower (P) is dominant, and the white flower (p) is recessive. Use the Punnet square
to predict the results of this monohybrid cross between a purple homozygote flower and a white
homozygote flower and state the phenotypic and genotypic ratios of the F2 generation.

Punnett Square for the Cross:
 Parent 1: Homozygous dominant (PP) - Purple flower
 Parent 2: Homozygous recessive (pp) - White flower

Monohybrid Cross:

P P
p Pp Pp

p Pp Pp

Genotypic Ratio:
All offspring in the F1 generation will be heterozygous (Pp), meaning they will all have one
dominant allele (P) and one recessive allele (p).

Phenotypic Ratio:
The dominant purple flower allele (P) will mask the recessive white flower allele (p). Therefore, all
F1 offspring will display the purple phenotype.

Summary:
 Genotypic ratio (F1): 100% Pp (heterozygous).
 Phenotypic ratio (F1): 100% purple.

F2 Generation:
If you are considering a cross between two F1 individuals (Pp × Pp), the results will look like this:

P p
P PP Pp

p Pp pp
