ENG 102 FINAL EXAM REFLECTION ESSAY – Nevada State College Jacob Homan ENG 102 Hoffman 5/3/19 Final Exam Reflection The first attempt at anything new we try isn’t always going to be the best. It normally takes time for people to adjust and progress. For example, Steven Spielberg’s first film he created was “The Sugarland Express”. That film was rated 6.8/10 on IMDB. In Michael Jordan’s first career professional game he only scored 16 points. Dr. Seuss’s first book “And to Think that I saw It on Mulberry St” was only given 3 out of 5 stars. All these American icons didn’t let their first attempt define their whole career. They instead, are remembered by the impact they made throughout their career and most importantly how they finished it. So, when revising my Essay 1 compared to Essay 5 the same applies here. My Essay 1 clearly wasn’t my strongest essay but it certainly was a start for something greater. The comparison between Essay 1 and Essay 5 is a huge difference in progress and displays the steps it takes to develop effective writing skills. While analyzing Essay 1 it’s easy to notice the flaws in the paper. Such as, poor effective language, and low vocabulary used words. While trying to explain the poem I was analyzing in paragraph, in the second line I stated, “We can clearly tell this poem deals with violence.” In the poem itself, it’s noticeable by the reader that the poem is violent so that sentence was unnecessary and didn’t need to be said. In Essay 5, in the introduction paragraph I do a lot better at getting to the point. I stated, “This issue has enraged millions of American citizens to push for the banning of assault weapons and gun control.” Instead of explaining to the reader why this issue has enraged millions, it’s already known that it’s an issue. So, it’s a lot easier to get to the point and saving unnecessary words that need to be said.
