My 8th-grade class will be learning about digital literacy and how
they can take action to manage and protect their personal data
and digital privacy. This lesson will follow the 1.2.d digital privacy,
an ISTE standard.
Measurable learning objective
Students will be able to use digital information ethically, navigate
through permissions and privacy on personal and shared devices
with 80% accuracy.
Instructional strategies
I will start my lesson with an educational video on the importance
of digital privacy with captions on. Afterward, we as a class will
discuss why it is necessary to protect our privacy and converse
about why they think others will invade our digital privacy and
what their intentions are. We will also go through an activity
guessing the average of apps allowed for our locations,
microphones, and camera before taking out our devices. We will
then compare how close our guesses were to the actual amount.
We will then manage who has access to other aspects of our
devices. To measure the students' learning, I will give them
several common app names and ask them what kind of
permission each app should be allowed, if any at all.
Strategies are differentiated for the needs of multiple students to
achieve the learning objective.
I will personalize the learning environment when necessary for
students to stay focused, such as allowing students to move
around in class, stand, or sit. During our activity, I will assist any
students who need help or need a repeat of our goal. I will ask
specific questions about cookies, permissions, and app tracking
systems. Then I will fill in any gaps in information that the
