Separation Anxiety Disorder (SAD) - ANSWER-A disorder in which an older child
has consistent feelings of anxiety when separated from parent or caregiver.
Developmentally normal before 3 years old, but when it continues on it
becomes SAD
Modifications - ANSWER-Changes to the curriculum that allow a student to
access material at their level (Changes WHAT they are learning)
Culturally Responsive Teaching - ANSWER-An approach that recognizes the
importance of including all students' cultures in all aspects of learning.
Emotional Disturbance / Disability - ANSWER-A mental illness that impacts their
behavior and ability to function in the classroom (anxiety, bipolar, depression,
OCD)
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - ANSWER-A disorder whose symptoms
often include flashbacks to the event, increases in anxiety or aggression, and
difficulty processing the event. These symptoms may be persistent or set off by
the occurrence of a particular trigger, such as loud noises or large crowds
Visual Impairment - ANSWER-any loss of vision that cannot be fully corrected
with lenses
, Hearing Impairment - ANSWER-partial hearing loss that can improve or worsen
over time. Students with hearing aids that correct the loss can still qualify for
services
Dyscalculia - ANSWER-A math-related learning disability characterized by an
inability to grasp and remember math concepts, rules and formulas, despite

needs and goals
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) - ANSWER-a label applied to
individuals who have great difficulty concentrating on what they are doing AND
are extremely active, impulsive, distractible, and excitable
Cultural / Individual Stereotypes - ANSWER-General assumptions made about
individuals or groups, sometimes based on information that is not correct or
incomplete.
Orthopedic Impairment - ANSWER-a physical disability where the bones or
muscles do not work like a typical peer; many use braces or a wheelchair
