examples of irregular rhythms below. For both A and B please provide what type of irregular
rhythm you believe the subject is exhibiting and why it would be considered irregular.

Note that each of the images provided spans the same time frame.

PART III. QUESTIONS AND ANALYSIS
1. What are two factors that could affect the accuracy of an indirect blood pressure
measurement?

Two factors that can affect the accuracy of an indirect blood pressure measurement and cuff
sizing and activity deone before measuring. There is an appropriate size for each person that
leads to optimal accurate readings. If the cuff is too large the reading will be off and if it's too
small the same applies. If someone does any type of physical activity beforehand measuring
blood pressure the reading will be incorrect because they are not at the rest period one needs to
be for an accurate reading.

2. Define the first and second sounds of Korotkoff. Which sound is used to approximate
systolic pressure, and which is used to approximate diastolic pressure?

The first sound of Korotkoff is measuring systolic pressure. We can hear this sound as a
continuous pump which indicates the flow of the blood going through. The second sound of
Korotkpff is the sound that fades away and is used to approximate diastolic pressure.

3. Why is mean arterial pressure not equal to (systolic pressure – diastolic pressure)/2?

4. Define pulse pressure. Explain in terms of changes in systolic and diastolic pressures
why pulse pressure increases during exercise.

5. Name an artery other than the brachial artery that could be used for an indirect
measurement of blood pressure and explain your choice.

6. What is an electrocardiogram?

7. What heart conditions may an electrocardiogram detect?

8. What does the QRS complex of a sinus rhythm represent?

9. What do the p and t waves of a sinus rhythm represent?

Bonus: What is the ankle-brachial index measure and what is the purpose of this measurement?
