“My child has been vomiting and having diarrhea.” – Mother



History of Present Illness (HPI)

The patient is an 18-month-old female brought in by her mother
with a 2-day history of vomiting and diarrhea. According to the
mother, the child has been vomiting approximately 4–5 times per
day, described as non-bloody and non-bilious. Diarrhea has been
occurring multiple times daily, described as loose and watery
without visible blood or mucus.

The mother reports decreased oral intake, mild irritability, and
reduced urine output compared to baseline. No episodes of
projectile vomiting have been noted. The patient’s older sister
recently experienced similar gastrointestinal symptoms,
suggesting a possible infectious etiology.

There is no reported fever, no recent travel, no exposure to
untreated water, and no recent antibiotic use. No history of
choking, ingestion of foreign bodies, or toxic substances. The
child attends daycare intermittently.
