History of Present Illness (HPI):

BT is a 5-year-old male who presents with right ear pain that began 2 days ago. His parent
reports the pain has progressively worsened and is associated with low-grade fever, irritability,
and difficulty sleeping. The child has been tugging at his right ear and crying intermittently.

The parent reports BT had a recent upper respiratory infection with nasal congestion and
cough about one week ago. He has had decreased appetite but is tolerating fluids.
Acetaminophen provided temporary relief. No ear drainage noted.

The child denies sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash.



Associated Symptoms:

• Fever
• Irritability
• Decreased appetite
