introspection. Pointed out that people are social creatures who influence one another.
Aristotle - created the 5 senses. Argued science couldnationally treat only information
from the senses. Explored nature of cause and effect. Lived 2400 years ago. Pointed out
that people differ from other living things in their capacity for national thought. Outlined
laws of associations that have lain at the heart of learning theory for more than two
millennia. Declared that people are motivated to seek pleasure and avoid pain.
Democritus - 400 BCE. Suggested that we could think of behavior in terms of a body and

the question of free will or choice.
Gustav Theodore Fechner - published “ Elements of Psychophysics “ which showed how
physical events stimulate psychological sensations and perception.
Wilhelm Wundt - founder of structuralism, attempted to break down condos experience
into sensations such as sight, taste, emotions, and mental imagery.
William James - wrote the first modern psychology textbook in 1890. “ I wished, by
treating psychology ' like a natural science to help her become one”
B. F. Skinner - (1904-1990) also contributed to behaviorism. Belivied that organisms
