Drawing and Summarizing
When I teach the I would like to incorporate drawing models such as arrays, tape

diagram, and equal groups. Drawing is an extremely effective strategy for all students but

especially for the younger grades. Drawing is very visual but also brings in kinesthetic and

linguistic area of the brain as well (Edutopia, 2019). Array models are an easy and accurate

model to represent multiplication equations. For example:




When incorporating detailed drawings with math problems students can use the resource to

solve the equation. Using a visual helps them to better understand the concept and in turn

retain the concepts. Young learners who struggle with numbers and math concepts in general

can benefit from engaging pictures like the one above to help complete the answers. The cars

in the picture help them see those four rows of two equals eight. Drawings like the one above
