How the behaviourist approach is compared to health and social care:
There are two perspecties to the behaiiourist theor; one of them is that the behaiiour is
learnt through the associaton or resemblance of preiious experiences.
For example, someone who drinks alcohol frequentl; will haie positie aspects with it and
therefore contnue the consumptons. Something like laughter and enjo;ment would be
associated with alcohol which might not necessar; is going to be the alcohol but more likel;
the atmosphere is afectng that indiiidual.
Howeier, it could also mean that the indiiidual is going to be more accepted b; their
friends and seen as more social people this could make a positie impact on their
confidence and therefore the; are more likel; to consume alcohol again. Although, most
people intake alcohol for fun there are people who tr; to ‘drink awa;’ their problems. The;
might be depressed and drinking alcohol would make them feel beter b; making their
problems ‘disappear for a while’.
Comparing this to the health care setng, there are a lot of diferent therapies which could
be used b; the indiiidual to help with the ‘alcoholic state’. One of the therapies that could
be used is called ‘alcohol rehabilitaton aiersion therap;’ where the indiiidual would intake
pills which when he/she intakes alcohol would cause a negatie impact on their impulses
and therefore them feel s;mptoms like nausea and sickness.
This would be helpful as then their alcohol consumpton is going to be reduces as each tme
the; intake something alcoholic their brain will produce negatie impulses and to preient
themselies feeling sick the; will haie to stop drinking alcohol. This wa; people with
alcoholic problems are more likel; to reduce their alcohol consumpton and lead a happier
lifest;le where the; wouldn’t need to get ‘drunk’. This method would be ier; helpful for
those who are sufering with depression and reach for an alcoholic beierage instead of
reaching for support from their close people.
