Research is important in the health and social care sector, especially if it is research regarding health
as this is highly valued within society. This kind of research can provide important information when
it comes to identifying risk factors and new diseases. It can help to identify patterns of ill health and
how it is treated.

My chosen question was ‘Should we test on animals?’ it is extremely important to develop research
in this field and this may be due to a number of reasons. An example of this may be if an individual is
asked if they support animal testing, they are likely to be unsure. This may be due to people being
unaware what animal testing consists of. Their answer may change if they become educated on
what animal testing is.

Research and publicity regarding animal testing is important as it will allow more individuals to
become educated on it, they can then make an informed decision should more companies take up
animal testing. Should people be against animal testing, it will result in many people not purchasing
products that have been tested on animals, causing them to lose business.

Ethical issues regarding animal testing should be considered and the decision should be as to ban
animal testing or not. As the animals being tested on cannot consent to the trauma and pain that
they have faced. As well as testing violating animal rights, which states that each animal has the right
to avoid suffering. On the other hand, individuals think that animals do not have thoughts or
feelings. As well as viewing, then as not being conscious of their surroundings or circumstances.

I began this research task with the belief that people would be against animal testing, I assumed this
as I am aware of the cruel things that happen to animals when they are tested on. However, their
were some results which shown that some people were for animal testing. I found this outcome
when I reviewed the questionnaires that I conducted. I asked 10 males and 10 females for their
answers. The graph below shows the number of participants who were for and against animal
testing.
