s8 Theft Act 1968 Robbery is defined as theft with force.


Steals R v Robinson (1977): There must be a completed theft.


Include The Elements Of Theft


Uses Force On Any Person (Force) R v Dawson & James (1976): The level of force used need only be
very small.

Puts Or Seeks To Put Any Person In Fear (The Threat Of Force) B & R v DPP (2007): There is no requirement for the victim to
actually fear force only that the D puts or seeks to put them in
fear.


Force ‘In order To Steal’ R v Hale (1978): If theft is a continuing act, force will be used in
order to steal.

R v Vinall (2011): Places limits on what a continuing act of theft is.


Mens Rea D must intend to use force in order to steal.
