NRS 434V Week 3 Discussion Question 2:/RATEDA/COMPLETE
1. Adolescent pregnancy is viewed as a high-risk situation due to the serious health risks that this creates for the mother, the baby, and society at large. Describe various risk factors or precursors to adolescent pregnancy. Research community and state resources devoted in adolescent pregnancy and describe at least two of these resources. Research the teen pregnancy rates for the last 10 years for your state and community. Has this rate increased or decreased? Discuss possible reasons for an increase or decrease. Adolescents who have children is never and easy thing for anyone in the family. Feelings of isolation and regret sometimes come with the reality that the adolescent is going to be a mother. When coupled with the risk factors associated with the pregnancy, it can be very overwhelming. Infants born to adolescent girls are at a higher risk for low birth weight, prematurity, pre-eclampsia, and inadequate fetal growth. All of these medical risks can be attributed to poor prenatal care in the early stages of pregnancy. High levels of stress over the pregnancy can also predispose the mother to feelings of inadequacy and isolation which can lead to neglecting the child. Adolescent mothers often drop out of high school in order to raise their child. Without proper education, financial stability is unlikely and assistance is often required for proper nutrition of the new baby and stability of the new family unit (John, A., 2014).
