Introduction

Financial technology is advancing rapidly, bringing increased focus on incorporating ethical
responsibilities into investment decisions. This emphasis reflects growing societal priorities
around addressing environmental and social issues. MoneyBrain’s mobile application
Investic aims to allow users to invest according to their values by facilitating ethical
choices. This report provides a detailed analysis of Investic and its role within MoneyBrain’s
business ecosystem. In particular, it will explore whether Investic qualifies as a business
information system according to the course concepts. Additionally, as MoneyBrain seeks to
target experienced investors as a new customer segment for Investic, this report will conduct
a requirements analysis to understand the needs of this group. The analysis will then
evaluate Investor's business process and project management strategies for developing
additional features, data flow analysis to model how information moves through the system
and business integration approach for coordinating with other MoneyBrain applications. By
deconstructing Investic’s functions and processes, this report aims to provide a thorough
examination of how the app supports MoneyBrain’s business goals through an ethical
investment model.

, Investic as a Business Information System (Priscilla Addai Asamoah)
In the MoneyBrain ecosystem, Investic's duty is to ensure users are using the app to make
ethical investments. This is done by examining organisations to ensure that their policies are
ethical and by ranking them according to specifications like environmental responsibility,
treating employees fairly, and community support. Moreover, Investics stands out from the
financial technology industry because of its unique emphasis on ethical investing. By
providing this differentiator, which focuses on social impact, a growing trend, Investic helps
MoneyBrain attract and retain users who value ethical financial decisions which sets them
apart from the conventional investment approach that often prioritises financial gain over
ethics making it their unique selling point. However, it also limits its user base and market
reach compared to more traditional investment apps. Studies show that ethical investments
often match or exceed traditional investments in returns, which challenges the
misconception that responsible investing requires sacrificing profits (Frazer James Financial
Advisers, 2023). For example, a Morningstar study found sustainable funds investing in large
global companies achieved a 6.9% average annual return over 10 years compared to 6.3%
for traditionally invested funds. This demonstrates and emphasises Investic’s objective on an
ethical approach as an idea that will most likely lead to an increase in profit and overall
success.

Investic demonstrates characteristics of a business information system. A business
information system, according to the course materials for CS1BAC Business information
systems, a business information system is a team of connected parts that work together to
handle input, process it, give output, store data and turn data into useful information which in
turn allows for predicting, planning and making decisions. Investic operates as a transaction
processing system in the beginning stages of profile setup and authentication of users. The
user enters their desired depth of ethical analysis, favoured investment length, tolerance for
risk, and investment amount here. These inputs are transactions that the system processes
to generate a user profile. The matcher, a third-party tool, then finds companies that align
with the user’s profile. Investic in the second stage also behaves as a Decision Support
System as It mines important public records through an AI tool called the miner to extract
information about a company's environmentally friendly procedures, fair treatment of staff
members, and the reinvestment of profits in the community. Users are then able to make
well-informed decisions about which businesses to include in their smart portfolio. The miner
calculates scores for each category which is then used to inform the user’s investment
decisions. In the final stage, Investic serves as a Management Information System by
providing the user with a list of all recognized companies and their total scores which aids in
their strategic investment decision-making. (CS1BAC Business information systems).

This approach also presents challenges. For instance, the accuracy and reliability of the
ethical analysis conducted by Investic's AI tool are crucial. Any inaccuracies or biases in this
analysis could potentially mislead investors and undermine Investic's credibility.
Furthermore, the ethical standards used by Investic may not align with the values of all
users, raising questions about the subjectivity of ethical investing. According to Ekaterina
(Svetlova, 2022), the use of AI in financial markets has its challenges too. Svetlova
