URINARY SYSTEM
- The urinary system components and the role of each organ
Blood enters the kidney via renal artery. Kidney acts as a filtration system.
Blood retain RBC and large proteins, which will enter the capillary network
and then renal vein back around the body where it needs be. Kidney filters
out the waste products like excess water, glucose, ionic salts pass through
the nephron (functional unit) and excreted to our urine (passes from
ureter then bladder and down to the urethra).
- Major functions of the urinary system
Excretion of waste metabolites or foreign substances. Regulate blood pH,
pressure, volume and osmolality (mainly by the kidney) – filters small
molecules, produces hormones, activates vitamin D. The kidney receives
¼ of the cardiac output.

different histological structures within the kidney
Nephron (functional unit)
Made up of glomerulus, podocytes, bowman’s capsule, proximal renal
tubule, loop oh Henle, distal renal tubule, and collecting duct.
