Parent Interview
29 minutes 46 seconds
Tell me about Holden's birth history and current health and
development.
I had a normal pregnancy with Holden. He met all his milestones
on time. His first word was at about 10 months. He would chase
after our cat. Haley, he would say. About until age 2, then I realized
that--[Holden says dog's name] she's our dog--I realized his
intelligibility wasn't there. He had kind of a limited repertoire of
sounds. He was using mostly /p/, /t/, and /d/. But other than that,
there wasn't a lot. But language wise, you know, vocabulary's
always been good, sentence structure he's always done well with.
30 minutes 48 seconds
Does Holden have a history of hearing difficulties or ear infections?
Oh, no ear infections, no family history.
30 minutes 56 seconds
Describe Holden's speech and the progress you have seen.
Probably around age 2. I was probably the only one that was really
able to understand him. And once he was combining words, it was
more difficult to really determine what he wanted as his
vocabulary grew beyond people's names and, you know, those
common nouns. And he gets speech therapy at school for 30
minutes a week.

What challenges have you faced with Holden? Describe any
strategies you have tried.
Mom: I would say challenges are maybe attention, finding a time
when they're motivated, and they're wanting to work with you. And
then not pushing them, you know, if they're not willing to, finding a
different time of day or different activity if one thing doesn't work,
then find something else that works. We do a lot of books at home,
