What is communication?

Communication is the passing of information between people within the business. The
communication that is between the receiver and the sender can be both verbal and non-verbal. To
ensure that all activities are carried out properly and to prevent missing any deadlines that can affect
the business negatively it is key to communicate effectively for the business success.

Effective communication

Effective communication can happen when the messages are relayed accurately throughout a
business. It is essential that communication is effective as this will enable the business to achieve
their goals.

Methods of communication

There are many different methods of communication which are:
 Video conference calls
 Written presentation
 Letters
 Telephone calls
 Emails
 Written reports
 Slide presentation
 Oral presentations
 Face to Face

Importance of communication

Communication is extremely important to the success of any business. It ensures that information is
passed on effectively in every way possible. Communication provides employees with a sense of a
strong and effective working environment where managers delegate to their employees in a
professional and respectful manner which can be easily understood. It is also key to the success of
the business because if managers and employees are not communicating effectively the whole
message that the business is aiming to convey may be confusing and therefore could be
misinterpreted.

In order for a business to succeed, employees must understand each of their individual job roles; for
example, if managers are not communicating effectively in regard with what needs to be done they
may struggle to fulfil positions within the workforce. This could ultimately affect production and
could result in a decline in demand.

Barriers of communication

In the business there can be barriers in communication which stop information flowing around a
business; they can include:

,  Language- this can be a barrier because the receiver may not understand the information
given, which can be vital for the business to work.

 Information overload- this is a barrier because if too much information is given at one time,
this may be hard for the receiver to understand and may lead to misunderstanding actions in
the business.

 Noise- this can be a barrier because if a work environment is too loud, this can stop verbal
messages from being heard.

 Cultural barriers- this is can be barrier due to different people having different habits, which
may cause information to be misunderstood.

 Emotional- this can be a barrier because the sender/receiver may feel or interpret the
information conveyed differently.

 Bad face expressions- this is a barrier when verbal communication is used, because bad
facial expressions can be misunderstood by the sender.

The Relationship Between McDonalds and Mangers

Managers for McDonalds have a large responsibility and they are known for having a good
relationship with their staff. This is because the managers have a lot of responsibility to ensure the
drive and direction of the business. A good manager can effectively take charge of tasks and
delegate specific roles and responsibilities. This is achieved by the way they communicate to more
junior members of staff. Good relationships between staff and effective communication are essential
to ensure that tasks are carried out in the most successful way possible. I

I think this stakeholder is important to the business because good managers make the correct
decisions to guarantee that McDonalds can take advantage of any opportunities open to them while
increasing their market share. McDonalds tries to open handedly reward managers for using their
initiative and have various rewards in places when staff meet targets.

McDonalds communicate with their staff through written form such as email and direct mail, as well
as staff briefings each morning and when there is a changeover shift. This demonstrates that in order
to be effective all employees need to know what is expected and what the daily targets are to
ensure that each day is successful. This stems from good team building and effective
communication.

The advantage of email or direct mail is that it is quick and simple as well as being easily accessible.
However, the disadvantage of this type of communication is that email can be disruptive; it could
potentially cause information overload and it lacks a personal touch. It can also cause
misunderstanding because it does not include non verbal communication, where the recipient may
misinterpret the sender’s message.

The Relationship Between McDonalds and Employees

McDonalds lists employees as one of the most important stakeholders. Well trained managers are
the first step to delivering a great service. McDonalds aims to provide career opportunities that
