Week 2 Discussion question This week's topic is centered on the concept of caring in contemporary nursing practice. In your initial response, provide a definition of caring that aligns with your perspective on the concept of caring. Identify your selected program of study specialty track (Executive, Education, FNP, Healthcare Policy, or Nursing Informatics). Describe how you will apply the principles of caring and holistic nursing in your future professional practice. Use at least one outside scholarly article to support your position. Provide an example to illustrate an application to professional practice. My personal perspective in defining caring, would consider all those actions carried out by health care professionals, including nursing professionals to prevent diseases, treat illnesses and to maintain a stable health condition and health status. Caring is the process of advocating and shielding patients while applying evidence-based care. Drahošová and Jarošová (2016) define caring as the interactive relationship among nurses and patients to which nurses will carry out activities and actions to protect and provide optimum care guided to a high level of benefits to patient’s health care improvement and recovery, According to Papathanasiou, Sklavou and Kourkouta L. (2013) holistic medicine takes into consideration all aspects of the entire and complete human being, in other words we would focus on the human being and design a plan of care that touches all aspects that possibly may affect their wellbeing either positively or negatively. The holistic approach will evaluate and use information obtained from psychological, sociological and mental evaluation. During my future professional practice as a MSN-FNP graduate, I will apply the principles of caring and holistic nursing by portraying actions while performing my professional practice towards patient’s wellbeing and recovery of health. I would ensure to listen, pay keen attention to minimal clues while making sure a fluent communication is applied both ways, patient to nurse and nurse to patient.
