Stress and Drug Addiction Case Presentation
Introduction
Hello and welcome. Today, I will be talking about stress and environmental
contributors to drug addiction and how these elements are correlated. I will be deconstructing
the issue of the correlation between stress and drugs and dive into
an intriguing debate on the nature vs. nurture of drug addiction.
We will explore and gain insight into the nurture
elements, primarily the environmental and stress factors
contributing to drug use and addiction in college students. Some
of the elements pertinent to this case will include the following: adverse life experiences,
social stress, and peer pressure, physical changes, especially where societal and idealistic
expectations are not met, parental substance abuse, economic challenges, and climate change
Introducing the Topic
Did you know that at least 30% and 8% of
Canadian students use alcohol and cannabis at least
once a week and daily, respectively? According to
the data collected in research by Health Canada
through the Canadian Postsecondary Education
Alcohol and Drug Use Survey (CPADS)-2021-2022, young adulthood is the peak of drug use,
owing to the increased life experiences at that age. This explains the rising use of drugs and
addiction seen in college students throughout the country.
Here are some of the factors attributed to increasing drug addiction in
teenagers and young adults.
