NYU Langone Interview UPDATED
Questions and CORRECT Answers
Greatest Strength/ Weakness - CORRECT ANSWER - My greatest strength would be my
ability to work on a team collaboratively, I am a team player and always asking for help on my
unit my biggest motto is this job is already very stressful why should I add extra stress on myself
or have my coworkers exhibit more stress and fall behind we always pick each other up and we
ensure we are performing patient quality

My greatest weakness would have to be confrontation . I am scared to confront a difficult
situation if a patient is doing something they aren't suppose to be doing like smoking or we had a
family member drinking a bottle by a patient going through alcohol withdrawal but being a
charge nurse I'm slowly getting better at it and using team work such a calling security to make
sure I'm safe or bringing a buddy for emotional support

Name a time when you went above and beyond your call of duty? - CORRECT
ANSWER - The time I went above and beyond for a patient was when we had a 20 year
old psych patient in a room with a hospice patient that was going to die that day! The patient if
she was made to be inpatient hospice was suppose to go to another unit of course we were in a
surge we could not accommodate that . So the 20 year old psych patient would have to hear or
see that and the family could not properly grieve cause normally we give them a private room .
So for 3 hours I was trying to come up with the best solution for both of rhem , I was getting in
touch with both teams who refused to move them I was in touch with nursing admin and calling
other units , there was no solution. So at the time I okayed it with my manager and nursing
admin and we put the hospice patient in a room that we were just opening up in a weeek it was
ready aside from the hepa filter and we gave the family time to grieve and the patient with a.
Psych history didn't need to go through the situation .

What challenges have you faced in the workplace and how did you overcome it? - CORRECT
ANSWER - The greatest challenge I had faced is being short staffed and having to
balance being a new charge with patients! On our unit if charge has patients it's the role of two
people! The way I over came it is by working together as a team and asking for help whether it
was a med pass or cleaning a patient as well as being honest with the patients and giving them
realistic time frames for example I will be back in 20 minutes with a medication!

Biggest mistake and how did I fix it? - CORRECT ANSWER - When I first started
posting payments onto our electronic billing software I did not realize I was posting the appeal

, payments wrong until about three months into my job. I instantly started panicking inside and
was thinking oh no how could this have happened, I need to fix this immediately! I went to tell
my manager and she was understanding and I started to pull all the EOB's I had posted the last
three months to see which EOB's I posted incorrectly and started going through the EOB's to see
which ones were posted incorrectly.

Tell me about a time that you showed initiative at work? - CORRECT ANSWER - Talk
about Valauri billing

Am I adaptable to different situations? - CORRECT ANSWER - Yes I am adaptable to
different situations. The unit we started on is a brand new unit . We had to adapt to orienting on
different units and then come to our unit to work with NRT and traveler nurses. We would have
to float for charge every shift within our first month of orientation and had to be charge trained at
6 months . We learned to use our resources such as the alert team , 14 E , Ellucid and nursing
admin and most importantly rely on each other . To be honest when I first started as a brand new
charge I was so scared I never been on a rapid but I realized how I am never alone and we will
make decisions together . So that's why I feel I would be great adapting to
Floating cause I learned to not be afraid and take advantages of my resources to ensure nursing
quality.

What motivates you? - CORRECT ANSWER - I'm motivated by my coworkers when we
work together and see their work ethic or the way they do certain tasks we all learn from each
other and become better nurses . IRS always Better to do something we haven't done ever
together to ensure we're doing it properly and not missing an important thing .

Describe a time when you worked with a coworker who wasn't a "team player" and how you
handled it? - CORRECT ANSWER - There was one new biller that was hired into our
Billing department and I was in charge of training him how to use the billing software and how
to bill correctly and send out claims to the insurance company. I noticed he was falling asleep
constantly throughout the work day which was effecting how many claims he was billing. So,
every time I would wake him up when he nodded off I pulled him aside after a day of this
happening and I asked him what was going on why he kept falling asleep ? He responded he was
going to sleep late that he couldn't fall asleep early. I told him he should talk to our manager
about getting his hours changed for work that way he could sleep in later. However, that didn't
work and I brought it to the attention of our Billing manager.
