Once the ovum is fertilized, its membrane undergoes changes that prevent the entry of other sperm. Sperm carry an X and a Y chromosome: XY is male, XX female. o Implantation The zygote propels itself down the fallopian tube, toward the uterus. Implantation in the uterine wall occurs 6 to 10 days after ovulation.
