NR-500 Week 8 Discussion Topic, What Did You Learn
Week 8 TD: What Did You Learn? Reflecting on this course, consider and answer the following questions: How do you envision using the AACN essentials and information learned in this course to identify, guide, and evaluate your MSN project? How do you envision using the concepts learned in this course in your future nursing practice? This course along with the AACN (2011) Essentials of Master’s Education has helped to identify personally on how to use knowledge, research, and skills towards my own personal nursing practice. I feel that the essentials have helped me to better grasp the foundational concepts of the master’s program. The roles of the master’s prepared nurse are to be a leader and to focus on the patient and providing safe, holistic, quality care to patients is key. Patient-centered care leads to improved patient outcomes and build on the nurse’s ability to take care of patients differently. Patients are more likely to identify with their nurses of they feel that their care is unique and that you are focusing on them as an individual and not as a group. Building complex systems (microsystems, macrosystems, a mesosystems) in healthcare allows healthcare professionals to focus on the entire organization while keeping the patients as the main focal point. Engaging in research and scholarship leads to better patient outcomes because it allows the nurse to have a better grasp of different situations that effect patients and their coworkers. The nurse’s ability to focus on the patient allows them to provide better patient care and inevitably leads to improved patient outcomes. I hope to apply all these outcomes to my personal nursing career. I also hope to focus all the outcomes and essentials towards my future career as a nurse educator. I want to help mold and promote the best nurses possible. I feel that as an educator and a leader that I can make a difference in the future and this class has helped to begin the structure and knowledge I will need to be the best educator and nurse leader that I can be.
